Insider Tips on Male Breast Reduction:

1. A combination of tissue removal with liposuction is often necessary. Liposuction alone can be used in rare cases with mixed results.

2. The fibrous tissue underneath the nipple will not typically go away with weight loss.

3. Unfortunately, as all men age we get some form of this condition.  Even tri-athletes and body builders can suffer from this.

4. Nipple sensation is typically lost with this procedure although this troubles very few patients.

5. The key to a good result is to accentuate the natural pectoral muscle below in the correct places.

General Procedure:

Patients seeking male breast reduction in Michigan are usually of three types:

1. Young men who have developed breast tissue after puberty and don't feel comfortable with their shirts off for athletics or swimming.

2. Fitness conscious men who are in very good shape but have some extra chest tissue that shows in tight T shirts or clothes.

3. Men who have lost massive amounts of weight and have extra skin and fat to be surgically excised.

The surgery involves making a half moon incision in the area where the pigmented areola meets normal skin to disguise the incision.  The fibrous tissue underneath the nipple that can be felt as a firm mass is completely excised.  The liposuction cannula is then used to sculpt the chest wall.  Tissue can be strategically left to enhance the shape of the pectoralis muscle below.

Recovery Process

After surgery you will have a wrap around your chest to apply pressure to your newly sculpted chest. Patients take between 4 to 9 days off for this procedure depending on how active their occupations are.  Dr. Malhotra does not use a separate incision for a drainage tube allowing his patients to recover without the hindrance of an attached drain or additional scar.
