Liposuction View Photos

Insider tips for Liposuction:

1. Your surgeon should discuss all types of liposuction including powered liposuction, ultrasound/laser assisted liposuction, and lipodissolve.

2. Typically less is less. Make sure your provider performs all types of liposuction before they offer you a small procedure because it may be that the small procedure is all they perform.  This includes a discussion of Smart lipo or laser liposuction in michigan.

3. For the abdomen, liposuction and tummy tucks do very different things. As a rule excess skin that hangs has to be surgically removed.

4. Have your incisions placed asymetrically so people don't see small incisions in a line around your waist.

Reasons for Considering Liposuction in Michigan:

  • Liposuction is commonly used in the following areas:
    • Chin and Neck
    • Upper Arms
    • Stomach and Love Handles
    • Outer and Inner Thighs

Liposuction in Ann Arbor can be done under general anesthesia with the patient asleep or under local anesthesia where the area is numbed and the patient remains awake.  Through a tiny incision, a narrow tube or “cannula” is inserted and used to vacuum out the fatty tissue beneath the skin. We often perform power liposuction where a small motor is attached to the liposuction cannula to remove more fat with less trauma than traditional liposuction.

Smart Lipo and Laser Liposuction

A procedure that has been recently featured in the press is Smart Lipo in michigan, or laser liposuction in ann arbor.  This procedure involves numbing the tissues with local anesthetic.  The patient can stay awake without anesthesia and is quite comfortable.  Smart Lipo can take from 1/2 hour up to 3 hours.  It is best for liposuctioning one or two areas.  Typically, the laser makes the fat cells explode and then a small portion of the fat cells are suctioned out.  Using the laser might add about 15% additional skin tightening but this depends on your body type, skin elasticity, and the amount liposuctioned.

Together the patient and the surgeon can discuss which method(s) are best during the initial consultation visit.

Recovery Process

New techniques allow for faster recovery from liposuction procedures.  The length of the recovery will depend on how extensive of an operation the patient undergoes. Time off from work can vary from 2 to 7 days.  A support garment may need to be worn for several weeks after the surgery, depending upon which area(s) are treated.

Selecting a surgeon:

1.  Liposuction is really three dimensionsal sculpting.  It is easy to remove too much fat in one place and not enough in another.  Many surgeons perform this procedure very quickly which is why results for this procedure vary greatly between surgeons. Choose a surgeon that seems to have a keen aesthetic sense.  Sometimes its apparent as soon as you walk in the office or meet the surgeon.

2. A huge proportion of laser liposuction providers are not plastic surgeons, or even surgeons.  It is easy for general practioners to purchase a laser liposuction machine and within three days of training start to perform procedures.  This seems unbelievable but once you are a physician with a state license you can perform any type of procedure you want in your clinic.

3. Find a surgeon that has privileges at a hospital to perform liposuction.  Hospitals will only give privileges to perform liposuction in Michigan if you have had the proper training.

4. Liposuction can be combined with other procedures for better results like tummy tucks, breast lifts, and facelift surgery.

5. Your surgeon should give you realistic expectations of what is possible and the expected outcome.
