Insider information on plastic surgery costs:

1. Surgeons that are not plastic surgeons (i.e. cosmetic surgeons, general surgeons, dermatologists, and oral surgeons) typically charge less than board certified plastic surgeons.

2. Some large national chains advertise very low prices for breast augmentation and liposuction.  These centers often due use board certified plastic surgeons but there is a probably a reason they are not working out of their own practice.  My colleagues that have participated usually did so when they were fresh out of their training, and only for 1-2 years.

3. Find out what type of anesthesia you will have and who will be administering it.  Some surgeons quote a very low price because they are actually giving you the anesthesia via a nurse while they are operating.  This is a legitimate method for some cases, but you should know ahead of time.

4. You should discuss how fees are handles if a touch-up or revision procedure is necessary.

5. Trust your instincts about the office.  Don't put a deposit down that day unless you feel completely comfortable.
